A little history...

The history of the town is closely linked to that of its fortress. Châteauneuf-en-Auxois appears around the twelfth century at the time were built the foundations of the castle.

Overlooking the Canal de Bourgogne, the fortress of Châteauneuf-en-Auxois is one of the last vestiges of the Burgundian military architecture of the fourteenth century.

Châteauneuf-en-Auxois was at the end of the Middle Ages a prosperous village shopping vocation, protected by an imposing fortress. From that time many houses are decorated pediments and stair turrets.
